One of the reasons that brought me into jewelry world was my passion for unique and beautiful things.

I love custom design because you are creating something that comes from your own inspiration, dreams, vision, feelings and experiences. When you design your own jewelry, you wear a one-of-a kind piece, a piece that nobody else has in the entire world! How fascinating is that?

I started designing my own clothes and jewelry in the Soviet Union simply because of a lack of stylish and beautiful clothes and jewelry. You couldn’t just go to the store and buy any designer clothes, shoes and jewelry, even if you had money – the supply was very limited.

When I came to the United States, I had a few pieces of Soviet jewelry that were out of style and were sitting in my treasure box. I took those diamond rings to a couple of local jewelers yet their ideas were boring and lifeless.  I wanted something interesting, different and not seen.

So I started thinking and I came across Egyptian alphabet

I found the letter “V” and its symbol – a “viper.”

One day I had lunch at a nice Italian restaurant. The atmosphere was enchanting. The food was delicious. I had a glass of wine. And all of a sudden I started drawing something on a napkin.

I created several sketches. Each of them was slightly different than another one. And right then I remembered a saying of my Russian fashion designer whom I used to work and told me that her first sketch was always her best one. I took her advice and it was right for me!

I found a beautiful chocolate color pearl and everything got into a puzzle. I made a clay prototype to see how the piece will look in reality and I loved it! I found a jeweler who turned it into a real jewel and this is what I got:

I called it “Path of Life of Victoria Karman”.

The base symbolizes a Universe.

The Viper in Egyptian alphabet stands for “V” – for me, Victoria.

The chocolate pearl symbolizes my goal in life.

The diamonds are what I leave behind in a history.

I cannot tell you how many compliments I get on the necklace!
